Frequently Asked Questions: Printing/Scanning
#01: I need to print materials. How do I print?
If the materials you need to print are for departmental/instructional use, your department should cover the costs. Please make arrangements with your department/program for departmental printing or for them to purchase a printer for your UTEP computer. If your Faculty/Staff account was migrated from a UTEP student account, you may be able to add personal funds to your Miner Gold card and print from the campus-wide student printing system . Please contact the Technology Personnel for details.
#02: My department just got a new network printer and I need help connecting my computer to it. What do I do?
Please contact the College's Technology Personnel so that they can be present and enter admin credentials when the technician from the contracting company (Spectrum as of Fiscal Year 2019) comes to your computer to set up the departmental network printer. Any questions regarding PINs, access codes, etc., must be routed to the technician and/or departmental admins.
#03: My office printer doesn't work anymore. Who do I contact?
Please contact the college's Technology Personnel so that troubleshooting can be performed on your printer. If they can't resolve the issue, the call will be transferred to the UTEP Helpdesk.
For departmental network printers, please contact your Administrative Assistant so that the contracting company (Spectrum as of Fiscal Year 2019) can assist with troubleshooting.
#04: My department just bought me a new printer. Can you help me set it up?
The college's Technology Personnel will be glad to schedule an appointment with you to install your printer for your office computer. If the printer does not come with the appropriate cabling (power, USB-A, USB-B, etc.), the college may be able to provide it free of charge. If specialty cabling is needed (proprietary power, USB-C cabling, etc.), your department must purchase the specialty cabling.
#05: How do I scan a paper form and send it via email as a PDF attachment?
Please stop by the LACIT computer lab (Liberal Arts Room 405) and the college's Technology Personnel will be glad to assist you. If you would like no assistance, please use the Scanner computer in the lab and follow the instructions on the computer.
#06: I need to buy a printer. Who do I contact?
Please contact the TIM or the Support Specialist (see the Technology Personnel page) and they will gladly schedule a consultation with you to assess your needs and make a recommendation.
